This is a new product from Oikos! I’m always excited to try new products, especially when they’re a healthier option. 

This Oikos high protein, low sugar Greek yogurt comes in a variety of flavours- plain, vanilla, strawberry, and banana. I picked up the vanilla flavour because I was going to use it in an upcoming recipe. 

This yogurt is 0% fat.

Pretty simple ingredients list. I was pretty impressed with the nutritional information since it’s 18g of protein for 3/4 cup serving and just 100 calories!. Typical yogurt is just 7g protein per 3/4 cup serving and regular Greek yogurt is about 14g per 3/4 cup….and for the calories with vanilla yogurt, they are usually higher than 100 calories. 

So, based on calories, protein, and sugar content, this new Oikos high protein Greek yogurt is pretty impressive.

Here’s a comparison of the other high protein yogurts and Greek yogurts I found at the store (yes, I stand at the yogurt aisle for 10 mins evaluating all the products- it’s super fun for me haha!): 

 

 

How is the protein content so high?

I believe they use ultra filtered milk to get the high protein content since there’s no added protein in the ingredients. This means they filter the milk to get more concentrated protein content and loses more water and lactose. Protein and fat molecules are too large to pass through the filtration- that’s why it’s higher in protein.  Ultra filtered milk is also creamier because of the retained fats. 

 

 

Overall, this Oikos high protein Greek yogurt was really delicious and better than I imagined. It was pretty creamy and if you didn’t tell me it was 0% fat, I would have thought it was 3.25% fat yogurt.
