When you think of losing weight, do you think you have to wake up every single day dreading what you eat or scared about feeling guilty, restricted, or shameful about the food choices you will make or have made?

That’s not a way to live and continue your weight loss journey….and most importantly, it doesn’t work!

Instead, I’m sharing 3 ways to make your healthy eating and weight loss journey more enjoyable and fun!

Losing weight doesn’t have to be miserable. Remember when you first started a new job, at first it’s challenging, but over time, you learn ways to make it interesting and fun.

Here are 3 ways to make losing weight more fun and enjoyable.

1) Reframing your mindset that getting to your goal is NOT the end of the journey

Reaching your weigh tloss goals is amazing but it’s not the end point. When you think it’s the end point, you think that you can suck it up and be miserable for 2 or 3 months until you reach your goal.

And this is what “fad” diets have you believe. You see people cut carbs for 1, 2 or 3 months and their weight drops. You might be thinking to yourself that ok, I can do this, I can stick to the plan for that period of time.

Maybe you can, but the truth is, it’s almost 100% guaranteed that you can’t sustain it and the weight you lost will come back soon, either all at once and slowly over time.

It’s been scientifically proven that each time you go on those super low calorie/fad diets, the weight comes back faster and your metabolism slows down (and may not go back up to where it once way). So, in the long-run you’re actually doing more harm in reaching your weight loss results.

Instead, you want to think of your weight loss as a journey. It’s not about cutting this or that food, instead how do you include the foods you like to eat and still lose weight and feel satiated and satisfied? That’s the long-term plan and this is the plan that will make weight loss a sustainable lifestyle change.

2) You want to stay curious and keep learning.

This makes the process more interesting because when you stay curious and have a learning mindset, it keeps life interesting, opens your perspectives, and keep healthy eating and weight loss interesting.

For example, for me, when I eat out and really enjoyed a menu item I had. I’ll go home and research the recipe for it. I try to come up with my own version which is healthier because I’ll add more veggies or fruit, use substitutes to mimic the tastes and texture but have less calories, or use less oil or sugar.

It’s like a science experiment. You don’t have to go extreme with the experimenting, if you’re not into that. You can google a healthier version of that recipe and just make small tweaks.

3) Be around the RIGHT people

Are you around people who support your goals? You’ve probably heard about the phrase “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.

The people you spend the most time with shape who you are and affect your attitudes and behaviours. If you spend enough time with someone, you will think and behave like them.

According to research by social psychologist Dr David McClelland from Harvard, the people you tend to associate with determine up to 95% of your success or failure in life- that’s huge!

So, if you’re a non-smoker and you hang out with smokers, eventually, the chances are, you’ll start smoking too.

So, are you around the right people who support your goals for weight loss and healthy eating?

If you’re constantly around friends who are fad dieting or have negative body image, guess what you’re going to start having. Now, I’m not saying to say goodbye to your friends, but I’m saying evaluate if your circle is helping your physical and mental health and your goals or hurting them. You can set-up boundaries on what type of conversations you want to have and how much time you spend with people who do and don’t serve you.

That’s why getting the right coaching and accountability is important to set you up for success. You can hang out with me and be exposed to healthy eating and weight loss tips by subscribing to my YouTube channel or hang out with me on daily on Facebook or Instagram.
